Since 1993, the Hamptons International Film Festival has brought independent cinema to Long Island’s sophisticated seaside enclave.

Locals can enjoy the festival’s year-round screenings and workshops, as well as a cluster of historic cinema venues, including the Sag Harbor Cinema, which was saved from fire in 2016 and has since won a $1.4m grant for its reconstruction. Plans include a new Cinema Arts Center with two theatres and a screening room, while maintaining the existing building’s original facade.

Each October the festival culminates in a five-day screening event, attracting some 18,000 attendees to East Hampton.
